Soil preparation. Deep tillage and field design on under-used farmland.
Transforming wealth into investments that do well by doing good. One token, one real Paulownia tree on our plantation in northeastern Bulgaria.
About
Kiri Farming is focused on nature-based solutions to some of our biggest global challenges. We develop carbon plantation projects for native forest protection, renewable timber production and carbon sequestration.
We regenerate undervalued farmland through Paulownia-based agroforestry, using regenerative practices that restore ecosystem function, soils and biodiversity. Our ultimate goal: restore and reforest millions of acres into productive agroforestry landscapes.
Build the value and improve productivity of under-utilized farmland in Bulgaria
Create robust returns for investors
Introduce a new, sustainable hardwood lumber to the EU market
Protect and rebuild ecosystems through regenerative farming
Generate nature-based carbon offsets to tackle the climate crisis
Plantation
Nestled just 30 km from Targovishte, our plantation is perfectly positioned for success. Thanks to the region's ideal climate, warm summers and mild winters, along with expert soil management and fertilization, we consistently achieve outstanding growth.

Planting and drip irrigation. The first broad leaves appear within weeks.
Five months later: trees taller than a person.
New planting. The plantation expands with fresh Shan Tong saplings.
Trees planted in 2020, after the technical cut in March 2021, regrow straight and strong.
First harvest. Clean, straight logs. Then the tree regrows from its roots.
Unique Paulownia tree
Also known as the Kiri tree, this botanical marvel is native to China. In nature it reaches 20–30 metres with a trunk up to 2 metres wide. We grow Shan Tong, a premium ultra-growth genetic species.
Through advanced cultivation our Shan Tong trees reach about 15 metres in just 7 years. Drag to see them grow.
The root system lives up to 100 years. After every harvest the tree regenerates from its roots. No replanting, saving time, money and resources.
Drought-resistant, thrives on many soil types and withstands −20 °C to +47 °C. Bulgaria's climate is the perfect place for Paulownia to flourish in Europe.
Massive broad leaves let one hectare absorb up to 130 tons of CO₂ a year. Backed by over 10 years of hands-on Kiri cultivation.

Market
Surging demand for lightweight lumber, carbon offsets and sustainable alternatives to tropical timber and balsa makes Paulownia the material of choice across forestry, manufacturing and renewable energy.
The annual EU wood and fibreboard market. Paulownia's strength-to-weight ratio fits CLT, timber frame and modular construction, and lightweight facades. Faster assembly, lower carbon footprint.
Stable, smooth and featherlight. The ideal core for high-end lightweight panels, drawer components and modern flat-pack frames.
Surfboard cores and water sports gear, marine and aviation fittings, and the growing demand for eco-friendly green burial solutions.

CO₂ credit
By capturing CO₂ and locking it in trees, roots and soil, we restore biodiversity, enrich soil health and regulate the water cycle.
A single Paulownia tree absorbs on average 100 kg of CO₂ a year while releasing an equal amount of oxygen. Our projects follow the PM.0001 short-rotation Paulownia methodology by Proba and align with the Paris Agreement and the UN REDD+ programme, meeting standards such as Gold Standard and Verra.
